Resumo

The present research addresses the topic of giftedness in children, highlighting the complexity of these characteristics, which encompass above-average abilities, task commitment, and creativity. The study explored the relationship between parental stress and the social skills of these children, recognizing that children with giftedness often face emotional and behavioral challenges. A survey methodology was employed with a convenience sampling, applying three self-report instruments to investigate sociodemographic characteristics, children’s social skills, and parental stress. The study was disseminated in online groups for parents of gifted children and included the participation of 35 parents who met the inclusion and exclusion criteria. The results indicated a moderate correlation between children’s social skills and parental stress, with no significant correlation between these factors and sociodemographic variables. It was concluded that behavioral factors in these children, such as overexcitability, may contribute to increased parental stress, although further research is needed to better understand the correlation between these factors.
