This demand emphasizes the importance of developing policies and practices that not only extend citizens' lives but also provide them with a positive existence. This includes access to proper healthcare, opportunities for social participation, and ongoing recognition of their contribution to the community. In this scenario, the innovative concept of Vila Mangueira emerges as an institution dedicated to the elderly. Grounded in three fundamental pillars for a fuller and happier life—autonomy, integrity, and socialization—the project aims to create spaces that encourage active, healthy, and participatory aging. The study, divided into two phases, encompasses theoretical research on the history of Long-Term Care Facilities for the Elderly, as well as their policies, and Environmental Gerontology, followed by the development of an architectural draft. The comprehensive approach of Vila Mangueira not only seeks to meet the growing demands resulting from increased longevity but also represents a tangible commitment to the holistic well-being of the elderly and society as a whole. The project goes beyond providing housing, aspiring to create environments that promote quality of life. This initiative stands out by addressing not only physical but also emotional and social needs, contributing to a more inclusive vision of aging in contemporary society.Item Criação e validação de um fluxograma de encaminhamento do paciente idoso para uso do médico não geriatra(Centro Universitário do Estado do Pará, 2021) Duarte, Amanda dos Santos; Parente, Felipe Aguiar; Costa, Tanise Nazaré Maia; Maués, Cristiane Ribeiro; http://lattes.cnpq.br/0584956998438639; http://lattes.cnpq.br/4471975369870057Introdutction: The world population has been undergoing changes in the social, political and technological spheres, characterizing the demographic transition, which changed the age pyramid, aging at a faster rate than the birth. In addition, there was a change in the epidemiological profile, demonstrating a preponderance of chronic-degenerative diseases, such as systemic arterial hypertension (SAH). The high prevalence of SAH in the elderly makes it necessary to have greater knowledge about risk factors, drug and non-drug treatment, prevention of complications inherent to the pathology, in order to reduce morbidity and mortality and improve quality of life and functional independence. In this context, recreational activities are an instrument to facilitate learning, promote improvement in the individual's health, and change in behavior. Objectives: This study aimed to develop and validate a playful booklet with guidelines that enhance self-care in hypertensive elderly. This validation was carried out by expert judges on the subject, as well as representatives of the target audience. Methods: This is a cross-sectional, applied, quantitative descriptive study. The Booklet was organized based on manuals and public health policies, in addition to scientific articles published in virtual libraries. Its content was analyzed by health professionals through a questionnaire administered via e-mail. The evaluators were divided into two groups: the first containing 30 professionals (doctors, nurses, nutritionists and physical educators) who work with elderly hypertensive patients within their area of expertise, and a second group containing 15 elderly patients diagnosed with SAH registered in the CEMEC. The method used was the Likert Scale. Results and Discussion: The technical jury and the target audience evaluated the topics “objectives, content, relevance, illustrations, language and layout and design”. According to the Likert scale score, showing that the higher the “I totally agree” criterion, the more approved the material will be, the Quebra-Cuca Booklet had its validation confirmed, since the technical jury showed 81% acceptance and the public target 96%, generating an overall approval of 86%. Conclusion: The booklet obtained a good approval rate by the judges, demonstrating its importance for health education, in addition to being a useful tool to disseminate the minimum necessary knowledge, therefore considered validated.Item Doença de Alzheimer: nutrientes para a prevenção uma revisão da literatura(Centro Universitário do Estado do Pará, 2023) Costa, Bruno Renan Costa da; Figueiredo, Sandra Maria dos Santos; http://lattes.cnpq.br/8530470051297070; Ozela, Cilea Maria dos Santos; http://lattes.cnpq.br/3869556585803094; Campos, Jamilie Suelen dos Prazeres; http://lattes.cnpq.br/4508719756740232Alzheimer's disease (AD) is a degenerative, progressive and irreversible dementia that gradually compromises the individual's cognitive level and, in the long term, affects the entire organism. aging. It is expected that as the world's population ages, the number of people living with dementia will triple from 50 million to 152 million by 2050. Many studies have shown an important role for nutrients in reducing the risk of dementia and delaying the onset of dementia. cognitive decline. To identify the main nutrients that can help prevent Alzheimer's disease. This study is a literature review, in which a search was carried out in the databases: LILACS, MEDLINE, SCIELO, BIREME and PUBMED, using the terms Alzheimer's disease, food, nutrients, prevention, between years from 2010 to 2022, using as inclusion criteria articles available in full in Portuguese, Spanish or English. 170 references were found in the searched databases, however, only 17 articles were selected, following the inclusion and exclusion criteria. Food in the prevention of Alzheimer's Disease proved to be a somewhat encouraging path. Nutrients such as omega-3, vitamins E, C and complex B have been highlighted when ingested in the recommended amounts. World Health Organization (WHO) says that aging is a slow and gradual process that happens irreversibly and that reduces the organic capacity to physiological stress. To know the physical and functional status of elderly people and their relationship with physical exercise. The study was a type of narrative bibliographic research, as it is characterized by the use of information, knowledge and data already collected by people demonstrated in different ways, such as documents, books, and the following databases were used: Scielo, Pubmed and Lilacs, with filters for publication date, article type and text availability. As a result, 223 articles were found in total, of which 176 were excluded and 47 included, among which there is not a large number of studies relating the physical status of elderly people with the practice of physical exercise, but rather its functionality with the practice of physical activity. In this way, the research made it possible to conclude that currently the physical state has given way to functionality in the routine of the elderly as the main focus of the scientific academic environment, but that there is a scientifically proven effectiveness of the combination between the practice of physical exercise and healthy eating for the benefit of human health, in old age and in all stages of life.Item Fatores associados à síndrome locomotora em idosos da comunidade de Belém/PA(Centro Universitário do Estado do Pará, 2022) Charone, Giovanna Cardoso; Assis, Beatriz Samara Silva de; Silva, Joelle Freitas da; Lopes, Geovanna Lemos; http://lattes.cnpq.br/8531597692485679To investigate the factors associated with Locomotor Syndrome (LS) in elderly people in the community of Belém-PA. Data collection took place from August to October 2022, applying a research protocol with sociodemographic and clinical exposure variables, application of the lower limb function test, Romberg balance test and the Geriatric Locomotor Function Scale of 25 Items. 64 elderly people were studied, and 21.78% of the participants had LS, with a predominance of females. LS was associated with balance alteration, with a 16 times greater risk of LS observation in elderly people with static imbalance. The present study found a higher prevalence of LS in females and noted that the change in balance in the elderly showedan important relationship with the locomotor dysfunction studied.Item Ocorrência da sarcopenia e suas principais complicações em idosos obesos(Centro Universitário do Estado do Pará, 2019) Reis, Fernanda de Carvalho; Tadaiewsky, Zbyeth da Silva; Maués, Cristiane Ribeiro; Cavallero, Mônica Ribeiro Maués; http://lattes.cnpq.br/0584956998438639Introduction: The world population is aging. It is estimated that in Brazil, in the last 60 years, there has been an increase of more than 15 million elderly individuals. The Ministry of Health accepts that in the elderly, defined as 60 years or older, there is an increase in the prevalence of chronic and disabling diseases, such as obesity and sarcopenia. The latter is defined by the gradual loss of skeletal muscle mass which results in a reduction in both muscle endurance and muscle strength. Objective: To identify the prevalence of sarcopenia among obese elderly who are followed up at the Obesity Outpatient Clinic of CESUPA Medical Center (CEMEC).Methodology: The study analyzed 14 patients who were enrolled at the CEMEC Obesity Outpatient Clinic. Data collection was performed in 2 steps. In the first, data on age, gender, previous diagnoses and occurrence of falls were collected in a specific research form. Then, the participants were submitted to anthropometric measurements, body composition evaluation and functional performance tests. Bioimpedance, Grip Hand Strength Test, Timed up and go and Gait Speed were used. The 2018 European Criteria (EWGSOP2) were used as a reference for the diagnosis of sarcopenia. Results: It was observed that none of the analyzed sample had a diagnosis for sarcopenia, however, two patients had lower palmar grip strength, which was classified as probable sarcopenia. Conclusion: This study concluded that although results were negative to confirm the diagnosis of sarcopenia in the sample, relevant changes in body composition and physical performance were perceived, thus contributing in the future to the establishment of a condition with sarcopenia and its complications.Item Prevalência de internações de idosos por pneumonia no estado do Pará na série histórica de 2010 a 2019(Centro Universitário do Estado do Pará, 2021) Guimarães, Aline Cunha; Machado, Gabriela Camara; Monteiro, José Tadeu Colares; Maués, Cristiane Ribeiro; http://lattes.cnpq.br/0584956998438639; http://lattes.cnpq.br/7627103187307808Introduction: Every individual over 60 years of age is considered elderly according to the WHO (World Health Organization), and they currently represent a large portion of society; along with aging, important changes occur in the senile individual's body, whether in the anatomy or in the immune system, causing, due to these changes, a greater propensity for certain diseases, such as pneumonia. This pathology, despite vaccination against the main causative agents of it, still demonstrates significant importance in the number of hospitalizations of the elderly. In this context, it is extremely important to further study the epidemiological profile of these elderly people hospitalized for this pathology. Objectives: To identify the prevalence of hospitalizations for pneumonia between 2010 and 2019, in individuals over 60 years of age, in the state of Pará. Methodology: This study is descriptive and quantitative, using the DATASUS as a source for surveying the numbers of hospitalizations pneumonia in the 10-year period (2010-2019). Results: Results: From 2010 to 2019, 65,220 elderly hospitalizations for pneumonia were recorded. Of the total of these hospitalizations, 49.54% correspond to females and 50.54% to males. Of the hospitalized elderly, the data showed that 50.39% are brown, 2.2% are white, 1% are black and 44.9% cases of hospitalization did not have information about the individual's race/color. In this study, the collection based on data from the State of Pará explained that Belém detained 16% of cases over 10 years, with 2017 being the year with the highest number of hospitalizations, compared to 2011 with the lowest number of hospitalizations. Followed by the capital of Pará, the municipality that recorded the most number of hospitalizations was in Ananindeua, recording 8.93% of cases. After these, Bragança holds 3.8% and Altamira 3.24%, in the period from 2010 to 2019, these being the regions with the highest number of hospitalized individuals. Conclusion: This study demonstrates that there is a variation in hospitalizations of elderly people for pneumonia between 2010 and 2019, however it still demonstrates high rates of hospitalizations of these individuals for this pathology, thus demonstrating that there is a greater need for a better strategy to reduce these numbers.Item Relação dos domínios de atividade e participação da classificação internacional de funcionalidade, incapacidade e saúde com o índice de Pfeffer em idosos(Centro Universitário do Estado do Pará, 2021) Coutinho, Alessa Moura; Ferreira, Klicia do Nascimento; Ribeiro, Vinicius de França Silva; Rocha, Larissa Salgado de OliveiraTo connect the domains of Activity and Participation of the ICF with the Pfeffer Index to complement the assessment of the elderly. Study of technological proposal through the adaptation of the Pfeffer Index relating it to the domains of activity and participation of the ICF, developed in three stages: literature search, using the Scielo, Lilacs and Pubmed databases with studies involving the ICF and the Pfeffer Index, followed by the understanding of the instruments and the codification of the ICF Activity and Participation domains with the Pfeffer Index. From the analysis of the ICF and the Pfeffer Index, an instrument was developed covering the relationship between them, described by the domains of Activity and Participation. Each of the 10 Pfeffer Index questions referred to 6 ICF subdomains. The Pfeffer Index alternatives were compared to the ICF qualifiers, bringing a difference of 10 points between them. The research showed that the application of the ICF complemented the Pfeffer Index and this correlation between the assessment instruments expressed the importance of data on the characteristics of the elderly's social life, mobility and functionality.Item Relação entre estado nutricional e qualidade de vida de pacientes idosos diabéticos acompanhados em uma clínica escola(Centro Universitário do Estado do Pará, 2022) Ferreira, Ana Beatriz da Silva; Nestor, Gabrielli Karolina Monteiro; Campos, Jamilie Suelen dos Prazeres; http://lattes.cnpq.br/4508719756740232; Marques, Simone do Socorro Fernandes; http://lattes.cnpq.br/0651248478895645; Moura, Carla Acatauassú Ferreira de; http://lattes.cnpq.br/4504006993667915Aging is something common for all individuals, consequently chronic non-communicable diseases may arise, such as Diabetes Mellitus. It is known that the diagnosis of diabetes can impact the quality of life due to changes in the routine that the elderly have. This study aims to relate the nutritional status with the perception of quality of life of elderly patients diagnosed with diabetes mellitus. This is a cross-sectional quantitative study carried out with 41 elderly people in a teaching clinic. Four instruments were used for data collection: a socioeconomic questionnaire, a data collection protocol and the B-PAID and WHOQOL-BREF scales to assess quality of life. Data analysis was performed using descriptive statistics using mean and standard deviation. Most of the elderly analyzed are aged between 60 and 69 years (63.4%), are female (53.7%), married (48.8%), studied up to elementary school (65.9%) and have an income of up to 1 minimum wage (51.2%). Regarding nutritional status, most are overweight (61%). In assessing quality of life using the B-PAID, the largest dimensions observed were food and emotional. In the WHOQOL-BREF, the major domains were psychological and personal relationships. There was no significant association between the perception of quality of life and the nutritional status of elderly people with diabetes, noting that most of the elderly diabetic participants have a good quality of life, even living with diabetes.Item Síndrome de fragilidade: prevalência e comparação com os 5 IS da geriatria(Centro Universitário do Estado do Pará, 2021) Araújo, Amanda Vallinoto Silva de; Costa, Tanise Nazaré Maia; Furlaneto, Ismari Perini; http://lattes.cnpq.br/9542085122721945; http://lattes.cnpq.br/4471975369870057Introduction: The growing population aging determines expressive changes in the epidemiological profile, with the increase of chronic-degenerative diseases, which generates, in a progressive way, a reduction in the functional capacity and quality of life of the elderly population. Accordingly, the impairment of cognitive functions generates the loss of global functionality in the elderly and, consequently, the geriatric syndromes: cognitive insufficiency, postural instability, incontinence, immobility and iatrogenic disorders. In the same way, with the objective of organizing the health management of the elderly, the concept of frailty syndrome arises, which corresponds to a state of vulnerability, associated with an increased risk of mortality and adverse health events, such as dependence, disability, falls, acute illnesses, hospitalizations and institutionalization. Therefore, the relevance of geriatric syndromes and the fragility of the elderly's health becomes clear, especially regarding the need for adaptations in social policies. Objective: Identify and relate the prevalence of frailty syndrome and geriatric syndromes (cognitive insufficiency, iatrogenic disorders, postural instability, incontinence and immobility) in elderly patients in follow-up at the geriatric clinic. Method: This is an observational, cross-sectional and analytical study, based on data collection from 128 elderly people treated between March and June 2021 at the geriatric clinic of the Medical Specialties Center (CEMEC – CESUPA). The instruments used included a self-authored questionnaire and scales commonly used in geriatric consultations – Daily Living Activity Scale, Timed get up and go and adapted Edmonton Frail Scale. Results: 128 elderly people were studied, with a mean age of 74.8 ± 8.9 years (95%CI 73.3 – 76.4), ranging between 60 and 103 years; 75.1% (97/128; p<0.0001) were female. The prevalence of frailty was 46.5%, with 38.3% mild frailty, 36.7% moderate frailty and 25% severe frailty. There was an association between this syndrome and the presence of cognitive impairment (p=0.0063), postural instability (p<0.0001) and immobility. Analyzing the relationship between geriatric syndromes and gender, an association was found between female gender and postural instability (p=0.0135). Among patients with postural instability and immobility, there was a lower proportion of young elderly (60 to 69 years old) and a higher proportion of elderly between 80 to 99 years old (p=0.0093). Regarding the frailty syndrome, there was no relationship between this and gender (p=0.8386); however, there was a higher prevalence in elderly aged between 80 and 99 years. Conclusion: frailty syndrome was identified in about half of the population studied, having an association with age and with three of the geriatric syndromes: cognitive impairment, postural instability and immobility. Postural instability was the most frequent geriatric syndrome, followed by immobility. In comparison, iatrogenic disorders and incontinence had the lowest prevalence.
