To evaluate the use of polypharmacy and its influence on depression among seniors. This is an observational, quantitative and descriptive cross-sectional study of the medical records of elderly patients treated at the geriatric clinic at the Medical Specialties Center (CEMEC-CESUPA), between January 2019 and January 2020. Data were collected, with the help of a data collection instrument, which were organized and built with the tools available in Microsoft Word, Excel and Bioestat 5.5 programs. Categorical variables were tested using the chi-square or Fisher’s exact test and results with p≤ 0,05 (bilateral) were considered statistically significant. 496 elderly people were studied, with mean age of 74 years, ranging from 60 to 103 years; about 75,2% were female, 44,2% were married, the average schooling was 6,3 years, with majority having 1 to 4 years of study. The use of five or more medications was identified in 52% of the patients and multimorbidity in 89.9% of the sample. The most frequent morbidities were Systemic Arterial Hypertension, Dyslipidemia and Type II Diabetes Mellitus while the most prevalent drugs were Losartan, Simvastatin and Metformin. The prevalence of depression was 17.1% in the sample, in which it was more associated with females (p=0.018). Polypharmacy was significantly associated with the presence of a diagnosis of depression among the elderly studied (p=0.003) and also with the presence of two or more chronic diseases (p<0.001). It is noted that polypharmacy is present in more than half of the elderly surveyed, positively associated with the diagnosis of depression, making it possible to identify that the majority of patients diagnosed with such morbidity used five or more medications. In addition, the presence of two or more chronic diseases in the elderly undoubtedly contributes to polymedication among seniors.Item Cartilha sem letras para idosos com hipertensão arterial sistêmica: uma estratégia de ensino para adesão ao tratamento(Centro Universitário do Estado do Pará, 2018) Ribeiro, Márcia Regina Mota; Magno, Ismaelino Mauro Nunes; http://lattes.cnpq.br/3841081216551678; Nunes, Leonardo Mendes Acatauassú; http://lattes.cnpq.br/3512764081076675; Rojas, Márcia de Fátima Maciel de; http://lattes.cnpq.br/1926263861110172; Ikuta, Yuji Magalhães; http://lattes.cnpq.br/8464078836149569This is a cross-sectional and descriptive study aimed at validating a letter-free booklet for elderly patients with systemic arterial hypertension (SAH) as a teaching strategy to enable adherence to treatment. In this context, it is necessary to discuss the differences defined by the progress of age associated with sociocultural taboos and their relationship with the quality of medical care provided under this theme, since the idea of sexuality in older adults has been neglected and the possibility of an elderly person being infected with HIV, until recently, for example, was considered remote. However, national data indicate that the HIV rate in the elderly already exceeds that of adolescents and among the trends for these high rates is the increase in sexual practices in old age, which lack guidelines followed. To determine the frequency, scope and standard of addressing the sexuality of the elderly within the geriatrics service in the metropolitan region of Belém-Pará. Epidemiological and cross-sectional, descriptive, population-based study, in which data were collected from a clinical interview, using a model form with questions prepared by the investigator, in patients treated at health clinics of the Elderly, from the Medical Specialties Center of Cesupa (CEMEC), from November 2022 to February 2023. 101 patients participated in this study. Of these, the majority were women, over 75 years old, married, Catholic and heterosexual. About of 84% of patients did not have their sexuality addressed in a consultation, even though they felt comfortable talking about the topic. The justification for this suggests that they would feel more comfortable talking about the subject if the doctor addressed it and they were indifferent as to the gender of the doctor who could address the subject. This constitutes an obstacle in the face of resolving personalized dysfunctions, since 38% of those treated had some sexual complaint, while 39% of them have not yet informed a doctor, with the main justification being that in 63% of cases the doctor did not speak about the subject. In view of that, it is necessary to make the routine of questioning the sexual health of patients, providing safety for the practice and greater comfort, allowing for greater diagnoses and greater resolution of satisfied complaints, providing the well-being of the elderly assisted.
