Candida spp colonize the skin, gastrointestinal and genitourinary tract and live in our microbiota as commensals, assisting in various functions in the innate defense. On the other hand, these microorganisms can cause cutaneomucosal and systemic infections in humans. Brazil has a wide variety of plants and among them we can find red guava or Psidium guajava. Studies have revealed that P. guajava leaf extract has antifungal activity on Candida spp and concluded that the use of its extract is easy to access and low cost to the population, however it is still being neglected when it comes to oral health. The aim of the present study was to obtain a mouthwash containing extract of leaves of P. guajava on Candida spp. As a result, it was observed the antimicrobial activity described in the literature for the extract, as well as for the proposed formulations, however, some aspects still need to be improved in the formulation, with the product’s flavor and pH.
