It was an descriptive, transversal study with a qualitative approach. Data collection was carried out after approval by the Research Ethics Committee Opinion No. 3,817,272 (CEP) of the Santa Casa de Misericórdia Foundation of Pará (FSCMP) through the direct application of a semi-open questionnaire containing eight questions, referring to good specific handling practices for dairy. The study included 13 handlers in the morning, afternoon and evening working in the lactation unit, who agreed to participate in the research, by signing the Informed Consent Form (FICF), which was carried out during the month of November in 2020 in a lactation Hospital located at the Hospital Fundação Santa Casa de Misericórdia in Belém PA. Data were processed in the IRAMUTEQ® software and descriptively analyzed using the word cloud method. The characterization of the participants, the majority 92% were female. With an average age of 45 years (standard deviation ± 8.2). This research allowed us to know, through basic lexicography, the most frequent vocabulary through the speeches, pointed out more specific to the handlers' understanding of questions related to good handling and hygiene practices in the lactation service. It was evident to analyze that most handlers have knowledge in the items handling and personal hygiene, use of protective equipment. They showed insufficient knowledge, difficulties in understanding the conservation of formulas. Therefore, despite having a certain knowledge, it is necessary to observe, if there is the execution of the activities in practice, they are carried out properly. Continuous monitoring is necessary. And soon the correction of inadequacies being indispensable when necessary.
