Since childhood, individuals are inserted in relationships of emotional dependence with their parental figures, who are responsible for creating a healthy environment for this development. However, dysfunctional development at this stage has an influence on marital relationships in adult life; In the present study, an overview of sociocultural changes and their consequences was highlighted: construction of the female gender; racial issues; beauty standards; loneliness of black women; gender violence. Through the theme addressed, the existence of the phenomenon of emotional dependence was investigated based on the experiences of white and black women in romantic relationships, based on exploratory descriptive research, analyzing multiple cases. The research was carried out in two phases: the first included an exploratory digital questionnaire to collect socio demographic data; in the second stage of the study, it consisted of a virtual questionnaire with subjective questions, carried out online. The study had six women interviewed, three black and three white, and, when analyzing the research results, it was expected to find differences in their perceptions of cisgender heterosexual romantic relationships, however there were significant similarities in the women's reports. The sample explored the participant´s experiences of emotional dependence and investigated how the literature describes the problems in the romantic relationships of women who became dependent on their partners. Furthermore, they all reported having experienced emotional dependence, suffering some type of violence, and highlighted the sociocultural influences on the male figure and how this can reflect on these relationships.
