Over time, beauty standards and the perception of the female body have undergone significant transformations. Historically, different cultural and social periods have shaped and redefined these standards, reflecting the predominant norms and values of each era, with these being particularly evident in the 21st century with the rise of social media platforms like Instagram and TikTok. The aim of this cross-sectional study was to investigate the influence of these social networks on the perception of female body image and the risk factors for eating disorders in 115 young adult Brazilian women. A quantitative applied method was used, employing an authorial form based on the BSQ-34, EAT-26 instruments, and DSM-V criteria. The statistical results of this study suggest evidence that body dissatisfaction caused by the constant pursuit of beauty standards, pressure regarding body image, and changes in eating habits may be directly associated with the use of the researched social media platforms, along with the consumption of related media content and the symptomatology of eating disorders.
