Introduction: Syphilis is an infectious-contagious bacterial infection caused by Treponema pallidum, that develops and presents in its primary form and, due to the lack of adequate treatment, it can progress to more severe forms, affecting several organs and systems of the body. Some studies has pointed out worrying percentages of Primary Care professionals who are unaware of or do not apply the strategies defined by the Ministry of Health for the diagnosis and management of this disease. Objective: To describe the profile of the approach to syphilis made by primary care professionals working in the Northern Region of Brazil. Method: A cross-sectional, quantitative and descriptive study of the health services research type was carried out, with 38 doctors and nurses working in Primary Care through an online form, from May to July 2021. Results: Female health professionals accounted for 73.7% of respondent. Of the total, 55.3% had a degree in nursing. As for training on syphilis management/diagnosis, 52.6% performed on syphilis in general, being 71.4% of the single type. Regarding knowledge about PCDT, most participants affirmed to know the material, but report a partial reading of the document. As for the prenatal screening exam, 68.4% are performed at the unit, with return of the result in less than 15 days (61.5%). As for the application of Penicillin G Benzatine 35/38, they affirmed application in the unit. As for the first prenatal care, 92.1% declared to be performed by the nurse. As for the management of clinical cases, most participants demonstrated adequate knowledge regarding the clinical follow-up of patients. Conclusion: Despite the various ways avaliable for updating regarding the proper management of syphilis, many professionals, still have the wrong behavior, delaying the diagnosis and proper treatment.
