To present a literature review that addresses the relationship between nutritional aspects and complementary feeding for children and infants. Longitudinal descriptive bibliographic review, using articles indexed in the electronic databases National Library of Medicine (Medline, USA), Scielo, Pubmed, Academic Google, Capes, published in Portuguese and English. The review was restricted to studies published in children that included the key words proposed by the author and the 12-year-old temporariness. Of the articles selected according to the inclusion criteria, it was observed that there is a negative association between the early consumption of processed foods and changes in the nutritional status of infants and children, as well as the technique and management for which this diet is offered.
